What's New for the 2012 Season

Last summer was very busy and 2012 looks to be the same. You will notice we had a rate increase of just under $1000, bringing our weekly rate to $8600. While this is in line with other operations and still a bargain for what we offer, I wanted to explain the increase. Of the $950 increase, $550 is going to charter a flight between Anchorage and King Salmon. I'm very hopeful that this will result in a better experience for you and improve our operational efficiency. Lost bags, missed and canceled flights, fog and missing cargo have been standard operating procedure with Pen Air. As a result we have had people arriving in King Salmon at all hours of the day and have been forced to make extra trips for missing passengers and luggage. Another benefit is the option to fish on Monday afternoon. Some people enjoy relaxing on arrival day but most would rather spend an afternoon on the water. It'll be your choice.

The Monday morning flight out of Anchorage will depart at 9 am, check in one hour before, arriving King Salmon about 10:30. The charter company is called TransNorthern and has gate L2, right next to the Pen Air gate. There will be an agent to check bags and ID's but no security check.

The following Monday will entail a relaxed breakfast and lodge departure about 9:30am. Departure from King Salmon at about 11am, arriving back in Anchorage at 12:30pm.

Once on the ground in Anchorage you will collect your bags in 10-15 minutes and be on your way.

All this and more info will be available on our new web site coming in January. I will also be posting recommendations for wading boots as the new ban on felt goes into effect this summer.

It's going to be a great summer, Thanks for spending a week with us.

Felt Soled Boots
Since 2009 there has been an increasing move toward restricting the use of felt soled waders and wading boots. As of January 1, 2012 four states (Alaska, Maryland, Rhode Island & Vermont) have implemented bans. This ban aims to prevent the spread of harmful aquatic invasive species.
