Fly
Rods
As an all around
rod a six or seven weight is best. Many guests
also bring a four or five weight rod for dry fly fishing
and an eight weight rod for most Salmon. A ten weight
rod or larger is best for King Salmon. While most
people bring their own rods and reels, No See Um Lodge
does loan equipment at no charge. There is a charge
for loss or damage. |
Lines
A floating line is used for most
Rainbow Trout fishing with dry fly's, nymphs, egg patterns, fry sculpin
and streamers. A floating line is often used for Salmon as well.
In some cases a sink tip line works better for Salmon. This sink
tip is normally only three to five feet in length. A heavier sink
tip is usually used for King Salmon as well as early season Rainbows
in fast deep water. |
Clothing & Waders
Chest high waders are a must. Either
neoprene or gortex work well. You will need felt soled wading
shoes but absolutely no metal cleats or spikes as they damage the
aircraft and boats. Typical fishing clothing consists of poly underwear,
pile jacket, hooded sweatshirt, and a good fishing rain jacket. Fingerless
gloves are nice for cold mornings. Dress at the lodge is always
informal. |
Leaders & Tippet
Bring an assortment of leaders. Nine
or ten foot tapered leaders in 6x to 3x are most often used. Five
or six of each size should be sufficient. Bring tippet in 6x to 1x. The
fluorocarbon tippet materials seem to be best. |
Reels
Any reel will work but one with
a good drag is best for the strong native fish that you will be catching. |
Flies
No See Um Lodge will furnish all of your
flies. You may also bring some favorites from home. |
Be
sure to include:
Polaroid fishing
glasses. Needle nose pliers for releasing fish. A
good pair of nippers. A camera and lots of film. Insect
repellent and a head net if you are extremely sensitive
to bugs. |

- Beer, wine, liquor may be purchased at King Salmon
- The lodge has 24 hour 115 volt electricity.
- A phone is available for your use at the lodge.
- Fishing licenses are available for sale at the
lodge.
